What does a cat behavior consultant do?

A cat behavior consultant is a trained professional who specializes in understanding and resolving feline behavior issues. I work with cat guardians to identify the root causes of problem behaviors—such as aggression, house soiling, fearfulness, or conflicts between cats—and create personalized, humane behavior plans to help improve life for both the cat and the people who love them. My goal is to support both cats and their humans in building a better relationship through education, empathy, and science-based strategies.

What kinds of problems can you help with?

I work with a wide range of feline behavior issues, including house soiling, aggression toward other cats or humans, excessive vocalization, overgrooming, pica (eating non-food items), and destructive behaviors like scratching furniture. I also help with cat-to-cat and cat-to-human introductions to ensure things get off on the right paw. In addition to addressing existing problems, I can help prevent issues before they start—whether you're bringing home a new baby, moving to a new house, adding a new cat, or anticipating another big life change. Early support can make a big difference in keeping everyone happy and stress-free.

Do you offer in home consultations?

I do not offer in-home consultations. My services are exclusively online, which allows me to work with clients from all over the country. Virtual consultations are highly effective for addressing behavior concerns in cats, and they give me the flexibility to help more people and their cats—no matter where they live. With the right guidance and support, positive changes can absolutely happen from the comfort of your own home.

Do you work with clients outside of your local area?

Yes! I work with clients across the country—and even internationally. Because my consultations are fully online, distance is never a barrier to getting help. I meet with clients via Zoom or Google Meet, whichever platform works best for you. No matter where you’re located, I can guide you through a personalized behavior plan to help you and your cat live more peacefully together.

How does a virtual consultation work?

Virtual consultations are conducted via Zoom or Google Meet — whichever platform you prefer. Before our session, I'll send you an intake form to gather some background information about your cat, their history, and the behavior you're experiencing. To help me prepare, I'll also ask you to share a few things ahead of time: photos and videos of your cat and their environment, as well as a simple diagram of your home layout. The more context I have going in, the more productive our time together will be.

Consultations for minor issues are typically one hour, while more complex cases — such as multi-cat household conflicts or long-standing behavior issues — are budgeted at two hours. During the session, we'll talk through everything in depth: your cat's environment, daily routine, relationships, and the specific challenges you're facing. By the end, you'll leave with a personalized, science-based behavior plan and practical next steps you can start implementing right away.

After our session, I'll follow up with written notes summarizing our discussion and your action plan, so you'll always have something to refer back to.

What can I expect during a behavior consultation?

Expect a lot of questions! I'll want to know everything about your cat — their personality, history, diet, daily routine, and environment — because understanding the root cause is the key to finding a solution that actually works. Many clients come in feeling frustrated or even a little embarrassed about their cat's behavior — please know that there's nothing you can say that will surprise me, and my only goal is to help. By the end of our session, you'll have a clear, actionable plan tailored specifically to you and your cat — and hopefully, a lot more hope than when we started.

How long does it take to see improvement in my cat’s behavior?

It depends. Every case is unique, and progress can vary based on the type of issue and how consistently the behavior plan is implemented. Some people see results right away, while others experience a more gradual shift over time. I always recommend keeping a journal to track the behavior and note any changes—this can be incredibly helpful for staying motivated and seeing how far you and your cat have come.

Do you guarantee results?

No—and if anyone does, they’re not being honest. I don’t guarantee results because real progress depends on the commitment and consistency of the person doing the work. I can provide a solid behavior plan, expert guidance, and all the tools you need to move forward, but it’s up to you to implement that plan. Behavior change takes time, repetition, and consistency. That said, I’m here to support you throughout your consultation period. If something isn’t working, it’s my job to help you adjust the plan and find a better approach.

Can you work with my vet or other pet professionals?

Absolutely. I’m always happy to collaborate with veterinarians, as well as pet sitters and other pet professionals. It often takes a team—vet, guardian, and behavior consultant—working together to truly understand and resolve a behavior issue. I believe in open communication and a shared goal: the well-being of the cat. I use only science-based, humane methods, so I do not partner with individuals who identify as animal communicators or psychics.
